I always say, “We make changes when we’re SICK of our OWN BULLSHIT.”

And if there’s something you’ve wanted for a long time and have pushed down, something you’ve been resisting taking care of -

Then you might just be SICK of your OWN BULLSHIT right bout now.

Maybe you see that you’re in resistance somewhere. Maybe you know that the thing you want is going to require a new game plan!

NOW WHAT?

How do you move out of resistance?

Great question!  I’ll tell you HOW, aaandd….you probably will not like the answer:

Instead of resisting, try surrendering INTO it. Yes, it’s uncomfortable. But so is working around it.

Can you see that no matter what you’re doing, it’s uncomfortable?

Where you are right now? That’s uncomfortable.

And moving forward with doing the hard thing? That’s uncomfortable, too.

One choice gets you out of your own way and heading toward your goal. The other - well, you know. It keeps you right where you are.

So, again: how do we get out of resistance?

We STOP avoiding it.

Stop wishing it would just go away.

Stop bitching & complaining.

That thing you want? It’s on the other side of resisting. Bitching, being lost, and feeling exhausted are not the way TO the thing you want.

Let’s get specific:

  • Acknowledge that you’re not where you want to be & that something is in your way.
  • Admit that you’re not happy with the way things are right now & you want it to be different.
  • Accept that you’re going to have to do hard & uncomfortable things to get where you want to go.
  • Get real with yourself & notice the patterns. Where are you complaining? Using excuses? Justifying everything?

I’ll be honest: I couldn’t do this for myself. I was pretty deep into unhappiness and I didn’t want to do the work to get out.

Actually, I didn’t believe I COULD get out. I felt pretty stuck.

My best friend had noticed. My husband had noticed. But both were just too close to me for me to hear them.

And I didn’t have a coach at this point. I don’t think I really understood or believed in coaching as deeply as I do now.


But I DID have two guides - the first was Pam, an intuitive leadership coach working with one of my partners and me to help us become better leaders for our company.

In one of our last sessions, she looked at me sadly, and said, “You don’t even look like YOU anymore. Where ARE you? Who ARE you? What will it take to get you back to yourself?”

And I looked at her - without emotion - and just said in a monotone, “I don’t know. I just don’t know.”

That moment was defining for me because I realized that people outside of my immediate circle could see how deep into the unhappiness I was.

It was jarring to know I wasn’t kidding anyone anymore.

I really was sick of my own bullshit.

This realization brought me to my next guide, Chris, a meditation coach. Chris took me through some deep meditations to help me see my struggle more clearly. She spent HOURS helping me come to a place where POSSIBILITY lived.

Before her, I didn’t believe in possibility. I was barely breathing.

How can you see possibility when you're barely breathing? You’re just trying to get through the damned day!

Resistance is painful - both living in it and getting out of it.

But on the other side of the hard work of getting out of resistance - of SURRENDERING TO IT - is great ease.
