The Antidote to “I don’t know what I want”

Spinning. Fuzzy. Frazzled. Overwhelmed. Foggy.

UNCLEAR!

"I DON'T KNOW WHAT I WANT."

Here are some strategies to help you get what you need: CLARITY!!!

What Do You Want?

When I get on the phone with women in Breakthrough Call, they are in a state where their brain feels really heavy. Scattered, frazzled and on the edge of burnout. So the first thing I usually ask them is “What do you want?” Many women can’t even imagine an answer to that question.

I relate to this feeling a lot. At the beginning of my journey I couldn’t imagine anything different than how things currently were. When I ask a woman what they want and she can’t answer, I know the first thing that she needs is clarity.

What Causes Us To Lose Clarity

If I’m working with a woman that wants to grow her business, she might be jammed up by having too many ideas. Maybe she wants to write a book, start a podcast, or be a teacher! She wants to help so many people and has so many ideas on how to do it! Ideas are tons of fun to come up with, but when we lose clarity executing them can be overwhelming. Overwhelm keeps us from taking action on these goals.

A lot of us are very busy with a full calendar. We get a lot of ideas in our head that cloud up our head. People that lack clarity aren’t getting those ideas out of their head and there’s no space to get out of that state of feeling scattered. When we’re scattered finding the clarity to move forward is next to impossible!

Getting Clear

Discovering what we want is the most important part of seeking clarity. Once you have you know concretely what it is that you want, is the moment that you can uncover what your next plan of action should be. Once you know what the end goal is, you can create steps to get there.

You brain is most likely in a habit of jumping 50 steps ahead of you. It’s not until you stop this pattern that you brain has developed that you’ll be able to get clear on what you want in the moment.

Sit With Yourself

If you’re someone that is more introverted, carve out some time to be alone. Not just for five minutes, but for a full hour to just sit with yourself and see where you’re at. Meditate, journal, or whatever helps you get in touch with your own mind. Some people do better at walking around to see what’s going on around them.

Asking For Help

If you’re an extroverted person, try going to a coffee shop with a friend and talk about what you want. Or even just sit in the shop and think about what you want. Ask for help to have conversations about what you want or what could help you discover what your goal is. The person in front of you might not tell you the exact thing to do, but sometimes just saying things out loud can help you get to the next thought that could lead you to knowing what you want.

Don’t feel limited to just these things when you are trying to figure it all out. Do what feels right for you and make it a practice. Try carving out this dedicated time for yourself even once a week. If an hour is too overwhelming, start with ten minutes and slowly build up to an hour. This is a practice not an overnight epiphany.

Then once you get to your goal, keep this practice up.

Giving yourself space to discover more about yourself will only keep you on the path of clarity and keep you from becoming frazzled.
